Munera studied for five years at the Cristancho Musical Center in Bogota, and continued his musical studies at the Javeriana University. After a summer touring Colombia as the guitarist for the Latin group Ivan y Sus Bam-band, he traveled to France to further his studies at the Ecole Nationale du Musique d’Evreux and Conservatoire Darius Milhaud. During this time he visited many French cities, presenting his music in numerous bars, clubs, and concert halls. In addition to producing his own music, Munera collaborated with French artists as an accompanist, arranger, and composer.
On moving to the United States in 2002, Munera became acquainted, in New York City, with Angel Fernandez (of Marc Anthony, Ray Barreto, David Byrne, et al), with whom he eventually produced his first full-length solo album: “En Pleno Vuelo.” This Latin pop-rock album, which contains elements of world music, was launched to rave reviews in both the US and Colombia.
Since coming to the US, Munera has opened concerts for world-famous Colombian pop artists such as Juanes, Cabas and Aterciopelados and featured in the magazines Boom and Playback (ASCAP’s quarterly publication). Munera participated in the Calle Ocho Festival in Miami, la fete de la musique in Paris and in Miami.
